To mitigate the potentially harmful effects of tourism, we employ the following strategies:
Lighting
is by low-consumption energy-saving bulbs except bedside and bathroom lights
which are halogen because reading in bed is a Good Thing and cutting yourself
while shaving is a Bad Thing.
We use
no disposable products. While we continue to question the environmental cost
of laundering linen napkins versus throwing away paper ones, guests who use
their sleeves are awarded special points.
Our tiny
village has excellent recycling facilities with separate containers for paper,
glass, tincans, plastic. Everything from the hotel that can be recycled, is.
We encourage
our guests to offset their flights by visiting The
Good Travel Company
John
has constructed, out of the contents of his pockets, an experimental solar panel
to heat water for your showers while, on cloudy days the gasoil supplements
the sun. While you sleep the boiler turns itself off and other programable devices
turn themselves on.
Eschewing
the usual hotel practice of wasteful and tediously tiny bottles of bathroom
products, we provide large bottles of ecologically produced olive oil shampoo,
bath gel and body oil.
We rely
upon what is available locally - by which I mean Ronda as there are no shops
in Cartajima.
By telling
our guests how to find the local watering holes and feeding stations and other
local enterprises, we hope to spread the wealth
We hope that when you come to stay with us you
will enjoy these policies rather than finding them restrictive in any way. And
we welcome feedback and more good ideas. This
a handy site for those seeking ways to reduce, reuse, recycle. One can easily
check to see how one is doing.
