The Alto Genal, an important area for European birds, is rich in breeding species (4 species of eagle) and an important feeding area for migrant birds of west and north Europe due to its proximity to the Straits of Gibraltar. Research shows its importance to breeding species under threat:Golden Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Black Wheatear, Rock Thrush, Orphean Warbler, and Chough, all classified by the World Conservation Union (UICN) as under varying danger levels of extinction. | ![]() | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
