The Alto Genal, an important area for European birds, is rich in breeding species and an important feeding area for migrant birds of west and north Europe due to its proximity to the Straits of Gibraltar. Research shows its importance to breeding species under threat:Golden Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Black Wheatear, Rock Thrush, Orphean Warbler, and Chough, all classified by the World Conservation Union (UICN) as under varying danger levels of extinction.
Peter Jones* , our local enthusiastic birder expert, will collect you from the hotel and take you out for a day naturewatching. His knowledge of the fauna/flora of the Alto Genal, and Serrania de Ronda in general, is vast and fascinating and every guest who gone out with him has come back singing his praises.
