Suggested Andalucia Ad Lib Itinerary

Day One

Arrive at Malaga airport, pick up your rental car (or be met by Bernabe, our favourite taxi driver from Ronda) and enjoy the 90 minute transfer to Cartajima which takes you through some of the most emblematic and wild Andalucian scenery: Moorish fortresses, tiny pueblo blancos, roadside cafes, fields of smiling sunflowers (not all the year obviously!).

Teba – Moorish fortress

Di will greet you upon your arrival at Los Castaños, show you your room and settle you in with a welcome drink – what about an Andalusian sherry!

Join us for dinner which we usually serve about 8 o’ clock. While John is opening your wine, you can pick his brains about the best days to walk which trails (the high ones are best on a really clear day when you can gaze in wonder at the Pillars of Hercules and Africa)

Day Two

After a leisurely breakfast, set off on your chosen hike to visit one or two of the seven villages in the valley. Set off down to the river through chestnut groves, up the other side to Parauta where there is a small cafe where you can get your breath back with a beer or a coffee. Back on the trail to Igualeja, the largest of our villages with a population of 1000. We have an excellent recommendation for a tapa lunch – incredibly cheap, amazingly good. Down the valley again and retrace your steps to Cartajima.

Choices for dinner are either at Los Castaños, in one of a Cartajima bar, or you could drive to another village and see what’s on offer there. Farajan has a marvellous bar serving Moroccan fare – very very good. Alpandeire has an excellent restaurant.

Day Three

Perhaps today you spend in Ronda, that magnificent and ancient Andalucian city that has so much to offer. The Arab Baths are exceptional. We have developed a walking route through the old city that takes in most of the monumental sites. Your choice which you explore in depth. We can also suggest restaurants – secrets known only to the locals.

We will also recommend lovely places for dining this evening in Ronda. After which you drive (or are driven) back to your home from home.

Day Four

After an Andalucian breakfast, perhaps another hike to other villages. Or up the Riscos – beautiful crags behind Cartajima which are rather dangerous but the recent opening up of a signposted route makes the area accessible. A wonderful opportunity for birdwatching up there in the silence of the hills. You could elect to take one of Di’s famous picnics with you to enjoy from the top of the world

Dinner is up to you. At the hotel (you still have one dinner owing to you!), in the village, in a nearby village. You choose and we will sort it out for you.

Day Five

After breakfast and, at your leisure, drive (or be driven) back to Malaga airport. Refreshed, batteries recharged, rejuvenated!
