Some local restaurants and bars

Juzcar, the next village, has a good bar called Torricheli. Tell Antonio that “Diana de Cartajima” sent you. You can sit outside in the fresh air or inside in the smoke but either way the food is basic and enjoyable. There is no written menu – you have to ask what’s on. They have a “menu del dia” or fixed price meal which includes 3 courses and a drink for about Euros 8. There is also à la carte. Closed Mondays.

Alpandeire, the last village on this road has a great little bar some 200 metres down an excitingly narrow side street. It is signposted on the main road. Bar Tapeo is run by David; the tapas are interesting and the prices low! A new restaurant has opened recently in La Casa Grande hotel run by the delightful Jesus and Rosa. It represents a level of sophistication that has been lacking in the valley and is well worth visiting. Closed Tuesdays and Sunday evenings.

In Parauta, El Anafe where they serve meaty meals – wild boar, etc. Closed Sunday pm

At the crossroads with the main Ronda/San Pedro road, turn right and into the gas station where there is a restaurant called Rincon Taurino which is always OK and sometimes excellent. Closed Tuesdays.

Ronda, of course, has much to offer. Some we have enjoyed include:

Casa Mateos – great house wine. A little expensive but excellent tapas. Habitas con jamon are fab.

Bar Benito – in the San Francisco barrio – very Spanish and untouristy. Excellent simple food.

Almocábar – also in the Barrio de San Francisco. More pricey but innovative and interesting. Can be smoky.

Trez – good vegetarian options

If you find a treasure of a restaurant or bar, do let us know so we can pass it on to future guests.

Buen provecho!
